I will confirm the consultation and will call you at the time and date you’ve selected.

We’ll have an informal conversation about where you are now and what changes you’d like to see and how we might work together. If at the end of this, we both agree we are a good fit, we will arrange our first session and I will send you a welcome pack complete with more details.

Just as you are unique, everyone’s experience of therapy is unique too. That said there’s a few things that are helpful to know beforehand.

Therapy can only be as helpful as you are willing to allow it to be, so be prepared to talk openly and honestly, even if at times it feels a little uncomfortable to do this. I promise you after 17 years and thousands of clients, there isn’t much I haven’t heard, so please don’t be scared to share what’s really going on for you.

It’s helpful to spend time before each session reflecting on what’s going on for you. It’s also very common for you to be given ‘homework’ to do in between each session to further help your progress.

Therapy is an active process, and by that I mean I can provide you with everything you need to gain the answers and clarity you seek, but I can’t do it for you. As the saying goes, ‘you can lead a horse to water, you can’t force it to drink’.

 

Everything that you say within our sessions is strictly confidential, and by that I mean, nothing you say is disclosed to anyone else. The exceptions to this are if you are at serious risk of harm to yourself or others, you disclose child protection issues or information relating to a terrorist event. In that case, I would have to seek guidance from the appropriate authorities in line with my duty of care.

I also undergo regular supervision with a peer to ensure my effectiveness as a therapist, however, all clients remain anonymous in this process.

I understand the importance of anonymity for clients and that they may wish that no-one else knows they are attending therapy. I totally understand this and you can rest assured that I have measures in place for this.

Therapy is a very effective way to not only move you beyond your current issues, but provide you with tools and techniques that can help you for life. With so many different types of therapy, it’s important that you find the one that resonates with you.

I am an integrative therapist which means that I bring together various techniques to help you, thus increasing the effectiveness of our time together.

This is dependent on a number of factors and something we discuss during our initial consultation. We will also have regular reviews as part of our journey together. It’s important to note that whilst change can happen very quickly, sometimes it takes a while for that to fully integrate so it’s important not to rush the process.

I underwent four years of counselling training, gaining a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I then studied for a year with Relate and Doncaster University to gain my Couples Counselling Diploma. I have also trained as a practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Time-Line Therapy.

Alongside this I have completed additional training in working with abuse, trauma and PTSD.
